Time and time again, contractors in need of an easily installed and cost-effective temporary bridge choose the modular Mabey Universal Bridge system. So recently, when Nevada-based Q&D Construction was contracted to rebuild the Floriston Exit Bridge just outside of Truckee, CA, Mabey Inc. was the logical choice to provide the detour bridge necessary to keep traffic moving.
Due to California Department of Transportation (CALTRANS) requirements, the Floriston Bridge was to remain open to traffic during construction and the project was expected to last for two seasons. This part of the country receives as much snow as anywhere in the U.S. and any delays in detour construction would be magnified due to brutal winter conditions. To further complicate matters, the build area was exceedingly tight, so the temporary bridge had to be constructed in roughly 40′ of space. Fortunately, Q&D was able to construct their Mabey Universal detour bridge in just three days. The 200′ long bridge allowed traffic to flow freely while construction continued. Because the Mabey Universal was constructed so quickly and performed so reliably, Q&D was able to complete their reconstruction of the Floriston Exit Bridge in just 4 months – saving them an entire season.
