Mabey Inc. is known for providing flexible and effective solutions to support excavations in a variety of environments. Because of this reputation, Central Florida Underground trusted Mabey to provide excavation shoring for the construction of a concrete intake structure – 30 feet into a small lake – to provide cooling water to a nearby power plant. Sales Representative Dave Howard was charged with developing the solution. Doing so meant working with Mabey engineers to devise a cofferdam 52’ wide, 32’ long and 22’ deep, a means to hold back nine feet of water and an additional eight feet of soil, and dewatering the excavation to allow work to proceed.
The answer was Mabey Inc’s. 40 ft. PCZ-18, interlocking sheet pile, two Mabey Super Power Brace frames and corner struts. Once installation of the sheets and frames was complete, the excavation was dewatered, allowing the contractors to successfully install the intake structure. The project took roughly 12 weeks to complete.
